LEARN THE
MAGIC!
THE RECIPES REVEALED
Puppeteers perform real magic when they take inanimate objects and make them come alive. The magic does not stop with the animation of characters, though. It does not even START there. It starts with lighting, sound, and script writing. It starts with creating the puppets, costuming the puppets, and even acquiring the money to build the show. It starts with promoting the show. Audiences just see the final magical product.
At PUPPET GUMBO, you can learn the secrets behind
the magic. Are we saying that our magical puppeteers will
reveal all of the secrets behind the magic? Well, yes.
That is exactly what we are saying.
Here is the workshop lineup (subject to change,
but at this point, probably pretty final). Pass your mouse
over the BIO logo to learn more about the workshop presenters and visit the festival schedule page to see when each workshop will be presented.

Sock It To Me
We will bring a puppet to life as we create a soft-sculpture
puppet. This workshop combines techniques from puppet making
and playwriting to create character for you to use in the
classroom or library. Starting with a basic soft sculpture
>puppet, watch your puppet develop its own personality
as you complete the dressing and decorating. The element of
surprise and delight in materials is important. Traits revealed
by your design will lead into short dramas based on the various
created characters.
